About kindabild

Kisa-Västra Eneby Homestead Society together with Östergötlands county museum, Cultural Heritage Östergötland, Kinda county council and Kinda Ydre Sparbank present, Kindabild.

The Kindabild project has given us the opportunity to document and further mediate a unique Photographic collection. This large collection of works by four photographers stretches over a period covering almost 100 years, from the late 19th century to the latter part of the 20th century. The photographs are mostly portraits, but there are also some that focus on people´s daily working lives, some special events from Kinda itself and the surrounding areas, plus a few landscape photographs.

The photographers whose work is represented in this collection are as follows:

* Emilia Johansson, who moved to Kisa from Nykil and started her fotoateljé (photo studio)in the 1880s. She photographed mainly the daily and working lives of local people, both in portrait and special events.

* Adolf Stahre, who came from Kisa, established himself in 1903 and photographed mainly portraits. He also documented the daily lives of people in the surrounding area, and his later work included postcards.

* Erik Falk originally from Darlana, started his ateljé (studio) in the 1920s. His work too, centred mainly around portrait photography along with landscape pictures and postcards.

* Lars Pettersson is the last in line of photographers represented in this collection. His work spans towards the end of the 20th century.

BACKGROUND

Thanks to the photographer Lars Pettersson, who continued the movement after Falk, Stahre and Johansson, this unique collection has mostly remained intact. Upon retirement Lars Pettersson gave away all of his photographic equipment to the Kisa Västra Enebys Homestead Society. The goal of the society is to display this equipment in up and coming exhibitions. With the death of Lars Pettersson, the photographic collection was also given to the Kisa Västra Enebys Homestead Society. This original and fine collection of glass negatives plus modern negatives of all sizes, are to this day kept in their original boxes.

GOAL

Our goal with the Kindabild project is to preserve and exhibit for everyone interested, the truly unique cultural heritage that these pictures portray, and bring this part of our history back to life. We hope you, our visitors to this site, will help by advising us of any information or facts that you are aware of about the people and the environments portrayed in these pictures. Who were these people? Where did they come from? What did they do? What happened to them? With your help and knowledge of these peoples´ lives, we will strive to ensure this website becomes almost a living document. A tribute, re-creating the story, long forgotten, of these people who came before us, our ancestors, who shaped our world into what it is today. Through a simple comment system built into the website you can help us, the administrators, communicate to others, our ancestors´ story. If the interest is sufficient we can start to hold study circles to map the information surrounding the pictures. Our aim is that this information should then be made available to everyone who is interested.

CHANGES

We are still putting together all the relevant documentation, so the material presented at Kindabild will successively grow with additional information constantly being added, changing from day-to-day as is necessary, so please visit us on a regular basis.
