The Rules of Kindabild

Uppdated nov 2008

These simple rules are guidelines to create a pleasant, friendly atmosphere of order and respect here at Kindabild. If we follow them we can significantly reduce the work loads of our administrators.  Thank you for taking the time to read them.

General clause.

Be respectful of those who have passed on and be especially considerate for the living relatives. The ground rule is, the closer you get towards the present, the greater the importance you should place on this fact, with regard to comments. Therefore, avoid unnecessary comments regarding cause of death, adultery and divorce.  Even a totally innocent question can contain sensitive or insulting information perhaps for a living relative.

Respect means that a researcher’s quest for information does not always come first. Even if the facts in question are available in public records, it is not always appropriate to publish them here. Addresses and/or telephone information should not be made available to others, unless special permission has been granted.

Present yourself!

Source of information

When you post information on Kindabild, always tell us from where you obtained the information. In other words, from what source you found the information.  This is a very important principle in all historical research, both when asking questions or giving answers. This is not difficult – but very, very important!.  Below is a typical example of how this should written:

·         by word of mouth from my mother, her father was...

·         In the parish records, it says that her parent´s name was.... Erik Hammerlund states on his web page (www.....) that she worked as a....

·         In Kåkinds Härads case records, 12 March, 1723, case number 32, there is....

Complement your post with volume records (eg. Karleby AI:13). But do not use GID numbers, micro-card or microfilm numbers, as a source.

Be short and concise
